While nicotine pouches are gaining more popularity, people tend to assume that snus and nicopods are the same things. They are both low-tech options for those wanting to enjoy a smoke-free alternative to smoking.
They are not only easy to use, but they are also very accessible, just as accessible as cigarettes from the local shop or through our online shop. But amongst all this confusion about what makes snus and our nicopods different, this blog will get down to key parts of the world of nicotine and hopefully help you understand what flavours and strengths suit your needs.
What are nicopods?
Our nicopods are quite similar to snus so that’s where some of the confusion might come from, as they are designed specifically to deliver nicotine through the gum lines, either top or bottom so the results are pretty much the same.
However, the nicotine is extracted from the Nicotiana tabacum plant and crystallised into nicotine salt, leaving all the plant matter out. By excluding plant matter, our nicopods don’t contain any tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNA), which are a group of carcinogenic compounds or properties that are famously found in traditional tobacco products like cigarettes and vapes.
Our nicotine pouches remove the factor that comes with all the side effects of inhaling smoke. They are little pouches that you place in between your gums, and they come in a variety of flavours that release nicotine for up to 30 minutes
What is Snus?
Snus has a rich history; it was first manufactured in the 18th century and according to the trade organisation European Smokeless Tabacco Council (ESTOC), “snus” is defined as a product for oral use like our nicopods. This explains why it’s still remembered and referred to as Swedish snus.
Snus is a powdered tobacco made from dried and re-moisted tobacco leaves and is still very popular in Sweden to this day. The powder is poured into little pouches to also be placed on the gum line, and when the pouches are in contact with the gum, they diffuse via the oral apparatus.
As with cigarettes, flavoured suns aren’t as popular as the original. Due to their production and composition, they have a pronounced taste of tobacco and you rarely find any flavour. On that odd occasion, you might come across menthol.
Where is Snus available?
Snus is widely available in Sweden, where it originated, and many other parts of the world, including the UK, and has more recently been accepted and introduced to South Africa, the Pacific Islands and the USA. When it comes to everyone else within the European Union, ever since the ban on the sale of oral tobacco products in 1992, nothing has changed and they are not available to buy or sell.
While it’s legal to use snus in the UK if you’re over 18, it is popularly used within the world of sports and football, especially. The Footballers Association (FA) has not banned the use of snus but is monitoring the situation.
What’s The Difference?
When it comes to the key differences between Snus and our nicopods, while it might sound like, from face value, there are none, you are mistaken.
Tobacco Free
Firstly, our nicopods are completely tobacco-free whereas snus is not. NicoPods are made from crystallised extracts from a nicotiana tabacum plant.
Nicopods Last Longer
Most of our nicopods have a longer shelf life compared to snus; if unopened, they can last up to a year from the date they are manufactured, so this makes it better to order in bulk from our online shop.
Snus contains a lot more moisture so it needs to be used as soon as possible. This can be inconvenient, as you need to order regularly.
Our nicopods tend to have a date printed on the bottom so be sure to refer to that before using them.
Flavours
Unlike snus, nicopods can come in flavours of all kinds, from our Velo frosty grapefruit to our eucalyptus, so you can add a lot of fun to your nicotine experience.
When it comes to snus, it’s hard to get access to any, never mind a methanol flavour; however, if you like the original, then you’re good to go.
Nicopods Won’t Stain Your Teeth
As they are wrapped up safely in these pouches and are tobacco free you won’t have to worry about your teeth being stained.
Legal
Our nicopods are legal and available to sell and buy within the United Kingdom and it doesn’t seem there are any buds to be made with snus.
