Why Is Vape Tax Being Introduced

Vape tax is being introduced because of the significant increase in young people who are smoking vapes. The UK isn’t the first country to impose this sort of tax, with around 40 countries in the world that have already taxed e-cigarettes. 

This is the first step to attempt to deter young people from vaping, who often don’t fully understand the consequences. Along with the vape tax, they will also increase the age of those who can buy a vape. This is part of the plan to create a smoke-free generation and the first step to that is restricting the younger generation from buying these products. This is also linked to the plan to increase the age that people can buy tobacco by one each year.

In the last three years, it is believed the number of children who vape has tripled. This is why the UK government is looking to restrict how vapes are described and displayed in shops. The government is also considering limiting the flavours which are available to just mint and tobacco flavours, to make them less appealing to people wanting to get the variety of flavours.
